Site Availability May 30 - June 1

Posted: May 30, 2008 06:01 PM

Our Internet provider is having some issues today that will require the replacement of a piece of networking equipment early tomorrow morning. Between now and then the site may be unavailable periodically, but rest assured the issue is being addressed and things will be back to normal soon.

ZingLists Mobile

Posted: Apr 28, 2008 03:56 PM

There is a new mobile interface to your private lists available at http://m.zinglists.com. This interface doesn't offer all of the features of the full site, but it should load much faster and be easier to use from mobile devices such as the iPhone and other smartphones.

Recent Downtime

Posted: Mar 07, 2008 09:41 AM

I am very sorry about the site's recent downtime. I had some power issues earlier this week and while I believe those are sorted out, the server did not come up as it should, leaving the site unavailable.

Rest assured that no data has been lost and reminders have been sent normally since midday Wednesday.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

"After" recurrences, easier date entry, and more

Posted: Dec 17, 2007 04:09 PM

We've introduced a couple of useful new features to the site and polished a few things here and there. The big new things are "after" recurrences and more natural date entry.

"After" recurrences differ from "every" recurrences in one important way: they are never rescheduled until you complete the existing one. This is useful for things like cutting the grass: if you forget one week, you don't do it twice the next week. You just skip it. With an "every" recurrence, you'd have two items in your list telling you to cut the grass. "Every" recurrences still have their place, though. For paying your rent, if you miss a month, you want that second item there to remind you, because your landlord will still want that check.

Date entry has also been a bit of a sore spot, but now you can type in more free-form descriptions of what you mean, instead of a strict YYYY-MM-DD form, and the site will usually figure out what you mean. Try "next Friday" or simply "jul 17."

Some other more minor updates include: reminders are now sent to all email addresses attached to your account, drag and drop list sorting works now on Safari 3 and items in your hotlist aren't duplicated unnecessarily.

As always, let us know of any problems or feature requests through the help section at the top of the page!

New Features: tags and comments

Posted: Oct 01, 2007 02:06 PM

Two major new features were just pushed live to the site: tags and comments.

You may be familiar with tags from other sites like Flickr. They are a way to categorize things with a short word or phrase. For example, lists here that are compilations of great novels might be tagged with "books". If you click on a tag, you'll be taken to the beginnings of a public list search feature, which will then show you all other public lists on the site that share that tag.

Anyone that has signed up can add tags to any list, and the list owner can remove any tag from his or her lists. The support team here will also keep an eye on things and remove tags that are inappropriate or consolidate two or more tags that are essentially the same thing.

The other major new feature is comments. Every public list page now also hosts a discussion. This is a great place where you can offer suggestions to the list author for new items or other ways to improve the list.

We're always open to suggestions for the site, too. If you have one, send it to us via the support page at http://zinglists.com/help/support.
