Road Trip Car Maintenance

From the author:

A list of things you should check out on your car before you leave on a long drive.

Item
Check your tires for low tread, unusual wear, and low pressure.

Fill tires to the recommended tire pressure in your owners manual or printed on the side of the tire if you've replaced the original tires.

Check the oil level.

Be sure not to overfill the oil level. Too low and too full are both bad states for an engine.

Check the fluid levels (brake, transmission, power steering, coolant)
Check belts, replace any that are freyed, cracked, or glazed (slick) on the underside.
Check hoses for leaks and cracks.
Check headlights and taillights for burned out bulbs.
Clean the windows, both inside and out.
Replace windshield wiper blades if they are damaged, skipping, or not cleaning the window well.
If you are close to your next maintenance visit or oil change, do it before you leave.
Make sure your spare tire is inflated and ready to use.
Make sure your emergency kit is in good shape. Item includes a link
